Sugar Act
Effect on colonists: lower tax on imported molasses, and let officers seize goods from smugglers without going to court
Result: the colonists got angrier

Stamp Act
Reason: Parliament had interfered in colonial affairs by taxing colonists directly, and it taxed the colonists without their consent
Effect: placed a tax on almost all printed material, newspapers, wills, and playing cards.
Result: caused protests, Patrick henry persuaded the burgesses to take action… 1766 act is repealed -
Writs of Assistance
Reason: colonists smuggled goods from Britain, and colonists were often found innocent
Effect: George Grenville convinced parliament to pass law allowing smugglers to be sent to vice-admiralty courts, which were run by officers and did not have juries. legal documents allowed customs officers to enter any location to search for smuggled goods
Result: the sugar act, making colonists very angry -
Townshend Acts
Reason: British leaders knew that colonists would resist internal taxes-those paid inside the colony.
Effect:the new taxes would apply only to imported goods like glass, tea, and paper with tax being paid at port of entry
Result: any taxes made colonists angry, and colonists organized another boycott -

It was caused from a natural extension from the battles of Lexington and Concord. It affected the colonists because they were winning but ran out of ammunition because the law that the king passed. The colonists reacted like they could have won. -
