Declaration of War
Britain kept impressing U.S. sailors, and Native Americans started attacking northwestern U.S. because they were influenced by the British supplying them with weopons. U.S. declares war in June of 1812. Jackson as Commander
Andrew Jackson is appointed as the commander in Georgia to put an effort towards fighting the Creek Indians in the south. This move by the U.S. government might have been a decider in who "won" the war in the end. Battle of Lake Erie
Oliver Hazard Perry lead the Americans to a great win over the British. Oliver went from his destroyed ship to a new one and kept on fighting to the end. Battle of Horseshoe Bend
Americans won a battle against two sections of the Creek Indians. One section was lead by Tecumseh who was a Shawnee leader, And the other section lead by Chief Menawa. Attack on Fort McHenry
American Forces held the British navy from overtaking Baltimore Harbor and from winning a moral victory. During the battle Francis Scott Key wrote a poem which is now known as the Star-Bangeled Banner. Battle of New Orleans
Andrew Jackson took his 5,000 soldiers and defeated a British force with 7,500 soldiers. This battle was actually fought two weeks after the treaty was signed to end the war. That happened because news didn't used to travel very fast so they were fighting in the south before anyone told them the war was over.
