In 1585 the queen recalled Lane from Ireland and was given command Sir Walter Raleigh colony that he was organizing to sail to (Roanoke Island). Raleigh invited Lane to command the land expedition.In April 1585, seven ships with 600 men under the overall command of Grenville left England. The storm reduced the company to five ships, and they had to regroup.They arrived at the Outer Banks by June,and by August, the colony had come ashore and built a fort and finally meet the Indians. -
