Robert La Follette
Robert La Follette was elected governer of Wisconsin. La Follette came up with the "Wisonsin Idea". In this idea Robert talks about increased taxes on railroads and tax reforms.

Eugene Debs
Eugene Debs was Labor leader during the Progressive Era. Debs asssited in organizing the Pullman Strike. Since Debs was one of the leaders of this he got sentenced to six months in jail. This was a Truly Progressive move because Debs went to jail for something he really believed in, the Pullman Strike.

William Jennings Bryan
William Jennings Bryan new to the democratic party in Nebraska, was nominated for Presidency at this time. Even though he lost the election, Bryan gave a speech that is one of the best in the history of American Politics. This speech is called the "Cross of Gold" speech. In this, he speakes about the gold standard and how he wanted to issue paper money that would be "backed by silver."

Business Reform
Trustbusting,or government activities seeking to dissolve corporate trusts and monopolies, was a type of Business Reform during the Progressive Era. Teddy Roosevelt used trustusting against companies who went against the Sherman-Antitrust Act.

Lincoln Steffens
Lincoln Steffens was born on April 6th, 1886 in Sacramento, California. Steffens was one of the most famous muckrakers between 1903-1910. Steffens believed the government and businesses had major flaws. He believed capitalism was the cause of the social corruption happening at the time This helped him make a reform of government during the Progressive Era.

Social Justice Reform
The fight to end Womens suffrage was a kind of Social Reform in the Progressive Era. Womens jobs were very laborous and they worked long hours daily. Ending the womens suffrage made the lies of many women much better.

Upton Sinclair
Upton Sinclair was an author during the Progrssive Era. Upton Sinclair is most famous for his book "The Jungle", which talked about the bad conditions of the meatpacking Industry. It revealed that diseased meats, and rat filled sausages were being sold and consumed by humans. it led to the Pure Food and Drug act.

H.G. Wells
H.G. Wells, also known as the Father of the Progressive Movement, was a science fiction author. Wells, supporter of Darwinism , amd wrote books about it. Wells believed that people who are not up to a certain intelligence shouldnt reproduce.

Corrupt Practices Reform
The Pure Food and Drug Act or the FDA, didnt allow drugs and food with bad ingredience to be sold and consumed. This was a Progressive Movement because it further immproved the health of citizens.

Charles Evans Hughes
Charles Evans Hughs was the governer of New York 1907 to 1910. Hughs was very involved with politics and he tried to stop problems in New York's Politics. Hughes ran for presidnent and had the support of the Progressives during it.

Teddy Roosevelt
Teddy Roosevelt also known as T.R. was the 26th president of the United States. Teddy was in favor of reform in the Progressive Era, including the regulation of Business He wanted to find ways of how to get rid of the problems caused by the industry production of his time. Roosevelt also wanted the creation of a government that was able to balance private industry. Teddy solved problems between employers and employees about labor, and looked treat people all equally, known as the Square Deal. -
Hiram Johnson
Hiram Johnson was the governer of California. Hiram created the United States Progressive Party, and lead it after the death of Roosevelt.

Woodrow Wilson
Woodrow Wilson was the 28th Presdient of the United States and was govener of New Jersey before his presidentcy. Woodrow was a Reformer in the progressive era. One of his focuses was women's suffrage. Wilson ran under the platform, "New Freedom", in this Wilson wanted to regulate monoply.

Labor Reform
Nineteenth century jobs were hard,long hours, and bad working conditions. Progressives during the time looked to make the conditions better for the workers, more for the women and children. Social reformers helped more than half the U.S. to pass Child Labor Laws.

16th amemendent
The 16th was put into place on Febuary 3, 1913. This ammendment was a tax reform in the Progressive era. It proposed a tax depending on a person's income. This made people with a low income very happy and a part of society.

17th Ammendment
The 17th Ammendment was put into place in 1913. This ammendment allowed everyday citizens to vote their own representatives to the U.S. Senate. Before the ammendment was ratified, the people did not have the power to elect their representatives. The Progressives were the people pushing for the change.

18th ammendment
In 1917, the 18th ammendment was passed with ease. This ammendment banned the use and sale of alcohol. The Progressives of this time believed alcohol only caused problems in society. As Progressives started promoting temperance, it gained popularity throughout the U.S. On the negative side alcohol became illegal, and used and sold through illegal saloons. Therefore the 18th ammendent was non-effective.

19th Amendment
The 19th amendment was created in 1919, and made a law in 1920. It supported the Women's Suffrage Movement, or the right to vote. Women believed that this amendment would strenghten their voices in society to end the war and support temperence. The Progressives believed women should have equal say in society.

Jane Addams
Jane Addams was a reformer during the Progressive Era. Addams supported the Settlement House Movemnet, which gave shelter to the poor and immigrants. Jane Addams was the firs tAmerican woman to ever win the Nobel Peace Prize.
