This is because computers were more advanced and had better features for writing, editing and document creation.

They were first used in the 1700's and were popular in the 1960's until 1990, when the first GPS came out for cars. Maps became obsolete because GPS's were a smaller and more advanced version of them. Instead of having to look down at a big map, you could just listen to where your GPS said to go.

This is because it was just easier to call someone on an iPhone anywhere than having to pay 50 cents in a public booth.
