    Viceroy Lord Lytton imposed restrictions on vernacular press hence commensing the vernacular press act in the year. The arms act forbade indians from possessing arms.Both the acts aroused strong reactions from all sections of the society.
  • Illbert Bill controversy

    Illbert Bill controversy
    Lord Ripon's law member,Sir Illbert, introduced a bill which later came to be known as the Illbert Bill. It had a provision which gave the Indian judges the power to try cases on the Europeans. On this the whole European community started to oppose the bill.
