    The Mughal Empire

    The Mughal Empire was an empire in Asia which existed from 1526 to 1858. When it was biggest it ruled most of the Indian subcontinent, then known as Hindustan, and parts of what is now India, Afghanistan and modern Pakistan and Bangladesh, between 1526 and 1707. It consolidated Islam in South Asia, and spread Muslim (and particularly Persian) arts and culture as well as the faith. The Mughals were Muslims who ruled a country with a large Hindu majority.

    Babur

    Babar (1526-1530):
    the great grandson of Tamerlane and Genghis Khan, was the first Mughal emperor in India. Babur was born in present-day Uzbekistan. He confronted and defeated Lodhi in 1526 at the first battle of Panipat, and so came to establish the Mughal Empire in India.
