Over 500 miners took part in the battles of the Great Patriotic War but only 220 of them came home back. The decision was taken to honor those people who worked at the mine "Baidaevskaya". In the film you see our History teacher Morozova L. D., who tells about these facts. She is still working in our lyceum. -
The opening of the monument
On the 9th of May 1967 the opening of the monument took place in Ordzhonikidzevskii District of Novokuznetsk. The sculptor is O. A. Ozerkov, architects V. I. Merkushev, V. F. Kazakov. It was built in honor of miners who died on the fronts of WOW II. The monument looked like slagheap of black color with boards and families of miners. A capsule was put in the basement of the monument by V. G. Kushnir. At the basement is a figure of soldier.

The museum "Pamyat", school № 76
At the end of 1970s the museum "Pamyat", school № 76, was created.The citizens brought there documents, letters and uniform things of those miners whom they loved greatly.

Work of the search group
The search group of our school found a great number of families of those people who lived and worked in this district and gave their lives for our happy future. Women and children, too did a lot during the Great Patriotic war to help soldiers on the front.

A new version
On the eve of the 40th anniversary the word "to miners" was taken away from the monument and and new word "to fighters" appeared. The white boards with printed surnames were added. These people were awarded with 527 medals: the Order of Lenin, Great Patriotic war, Red Star and Red Banner among them.

The present day of the monument
At the first desk there is the soldier helmet and automatic weapon, at the back side there are pictures showing the events and hard battles of the Great Patriotic war. Veterans told us to remember those people who gave their lives for us, for our happy future, for the sake of future generations! Every year near the monument we celebrate Victory Day and give veterans our respect and flowers. We are proud of it!

The future of the monument
We think that people's memory and our respect and love to the history of our district and the town will live long. In the future next generations will come to the monument of war heroes.
