    I lived in Ireland for my first 27 years of life on a farm. Working day in a and day out. Then after some years that were not so succesful we moved to California. WE came through Angel island, once I git there I knew my journey as an American had begun !

    Once I heard about the goldrush I told my family that I would come back rich with gold ! y trip was long and tiring, I didn't know much forms of transportation so I had to walk to find my gold. Once I got there it seemed that I was always in the wrong place at the wrong time. Whenever I would get to a spot all the gold was taken. I came back to my family ashamed, and once again I started working on the fields.

    After awhile I became depressed. Eventually we decided to move. On the moving day as soon as we were about to leave there was a letter delivered to me. It said I was drafted to be apart of the Union army. Those were the worst 4 years of my life. Everywhere I turned it seemed like someone was killed. It was a miricle I survived.

    I was one of the first immagrints to get a job working on skyscrapers. I saw so many of my friends meet an unfortunate end. Sense I was a Civil war veteran heights didn't fase me as much as the younger men.

    After my years of building skyscraoers, I was living in the city. I ran into this man named Boss Tweed who offered me a job, but I had to vote for him. I had no idea what I was getting into.

    I was one of the few immagrints that could see very quickly what was going on.I knew that I was just a lackey for Boss Tweed.The sad part was I couldn't just quit, i needed to support my family. I made it through those years, but barely. We were still struggling with the move, things were still really tough. After boss Tweed left NYC I went into retirement. Then I thought hey, why not write this book, hope you enjoyed it.
