In 3114 bc ( before Christ) the Mayan calendar was created. This calendar is different that is different than paper calendars it is made of stone. It is said to be one of the most accurate calendars. -

2600, The first Mayan towns and settlements appear. Most of these homes were built of stone and the Maya also built temples. They also build huts for chickens and or a kitchen. -

In this year the Maya writing developed. The Maya writing is more symbols than letters, for example, the letter x is represented by something that looks like a hand. This writing is called Maya script and Maya glyphs -

In 100 bc( before Christ) Mayan cities began to appear. These cities contained about 40 thousand people each. These cities houses people and animals and had many temples. -

Temples
In 50 bc ( before Christ) Mayan temples began to appear. The Maya built the temples of stone and they build a special temple called the stair temple. The Maya used these temples for many things, for example, studying the stars. -

Spanish Explorers
In 1517 the first Spanish show up. They bring with them war and diseases such as smallpox and measles (etc.) the Spanish later fight a war with the Mayans from 1524-1546. Within the century 90 percent of the Mayans died. -

Spanish at war with the Maya
In 1541 the Spanish conquer Mayan land. The war lasted from 1524-1546 before the spanish lead by Francisco De Montejo won. The Spanish used horses and guns while the Maya used bow and arrow, blow guns and spears. -
Jul 12, 1562
Burning books
On July 12 1562 a man named Diego De Landa burned books and images of the Maya. He burnt the books and photos because he thought they contained superstition and lies from the devil. Diego was a Bishop of the Yucatan, he burnt the books outside a church. -
The Maya and the Goverment
In 1761 the Maya of Yucatan rises against the government. The group was lead by a guy named Jacinto Canek, (Jancinto fought in the war against the Spanish.) Yucatan is in Mexico so they raised up against the Mexican government. -
Explorers
In 1840 the Maya civilizations was found. The civilizations were found by John Lloyd Stephens and Frederick Catherwood. When they find it they explore it and document it. -
Maya roit
On October 12, 1875, Mayan Indians raided a Xuxub sugar Plantation located in Yucatan. Many workers died or were taken captive. Soon after Bernardino Cen (the Mayan leader) was killed by a Mexican guard.
