    Martians dream of Earthlings (attractive astronauts) coming to Mars. Mr. K gets jealous of Mrs. K and kills the Earthlings as soon as they land.
  • The Summer Night

    The Summer Night
    More Earthlings are planning to try and travel to Mars. Martians are already aware of the voyage, though, because they have telepathy which gives them the upper hand over humans.
  • The Earth men

    The Earth men
    One of the first expeditions of four people is sent to Mars. Martians do not believe that they are from Earth therefore do not celebrate them, they are rude and send them to insane asylum where they are killed.
  • The Tax Payer

    The Tax Payer
    People on Earth aspire to go to Mars because an impending atomic war is coming. "The tax payer" attempted to be a part of the third expedition, but he was no allowed.
  • The Third Expedition

    The Third Expedition
    During the third expedition 16 men went to Mars. When they landed, they were greeted with an atmosphere that looked a lot like an Earthly city, and they saw relatives who are supposed to be dead. This was the Martians using telepathy to play with the minds of the humans, though, and the captain realized this too late. He was killed by his "brother," and the other 15 humans were also murdered.

    And the Moon Still Be as Bright
    Twenty men are a part of the fourth expedition to Mars. When they arrive they realize all the Martians have been killed off by the chicken Pox. Spender gets irritated that no one wants to preserve the Martian atmosphere and claims to be one and kills four humans. Because of this the captain shoots him right in the chest.

    A lot more humans are beginning to travel to Mars and colonize it
  • The Green Morning

    The Green Morning
    Benjamin Driscoll tries to plant trees on Mars because the oxygen is too thin for him to breathe. He also plants trees to make Mars seem more like Earth (homesick). It takes a while for it to rain on Mars, but once it does the trees grow big and healthy almost instantaneously.
  • Interim

    Interim
    Earthlings begin to built actually towns and cities on Mars. The settlements start to resemble Earth settlements almost identically.
  • Night Meeting

    Night Meeting
    Tomas, a human, meets a Martian and has a conversation with him (even though they're all supposed to be extinct). He has trouble communicating with him at first though because of a "language barrier." He later wakes up and thinks it was a dream but it was possibly foreshadowing a future event.
  • The Shore

    The Shore
    Two new waves of people come to Mars at the same time. They are too very different types of people, though. One group is very agricultural and farming based. The other group is very urban, people who are used to living in the city.
  • The Musicians

    The Musicians
    A group of human children go hiking and find Martian bones. They play with them and the bones start to sing, as though they are musical toys
  • Way in the Middle of the Air

    Way in the Middle of the Air
    African Americans and the black race in general is beginning to migrate to Mars. To give everyone the chance to voyage to Mars, they are helping one another by paying off each others debts and such. This irks Mr. Teece, though, because he is racist.
  • The Naming of Names

    The Naming of Names
    Earthlings are beginning to rename areas on Mars, such as on Earth. Since it is now their territory they want to name the area as they please. There are also governments starting to form on Mars.
  • The Usher II

    The Usher II
    Stendhal builds a house based on fairy tale characters and an Edgar Allen Poe story. This is not allowed because of the moral police, who are supposed to censor Earth and now Mars to keep everything realistic. Garrett, the one in charge of the Moral Police tours the house and is killed by Stendhal, as are all other visitors of the house before it is destroyed.
  • The Old Ones

    Old people finally start to come to Mars. They are the last people to start coming as they are boring and "crackly."
  • The Martian

    The Martian
    A couple who moved to mars saw their deceased son, Tom, in their front lawn. He lived with them for a little while before running away and turning into the the dead daughter of another couple. He/she turns out to be a martian disguising himself as the deceased.
  • The Luggage Store

    The Luggage Store
    The owner of a luggage store on Mars hears that there is a world war that is going to break out on Earth. He doesn't believe it so father Peregrine explains to him that its only hard to believe because it's so far away.
  • The Off Season

    The Off Season
    Parkhill returns in this chapter, and opens up a hot dog stand. He is mistreated by some of the martians though and therefore shoots and kills a handful of them. He tries to run away from the rest but instead of killing Parkhill, they give him half of Mars. Also, there is an explosion on Earth
  • The Watchers

    The Watchers
    From Mars it seemed that Earth blew up. Mars was sent a message in Morse code that said that the entire continent of Australia was blown up, as were parts of Florida and Los Angeles. Many of the settlers decide to return to Earth because of this, and they wipe out the entire luggage store.
  • The Silent Towns

    The Silent Towns
    Walter Gripp thought he was the only man left on Mars and he was lonely. He wanted a girlfriend or some type of sexual interaction. He then meets Miss Genevieve but she was not physically satisfying enough. Because of this he leaves her and decides he'd rather be lonely than unsatisfied.
  • The Long Years

    The Long Years
    Captain Wilder reunites with Hathaway and his family, who seem as thought they haven't aged in the 20 years that have passed. Turns out that these are robots Hathaway created after his family passed away. Hathaway soon passed away and it became evident that he never taught his robots how to feel or express emotions.
  • There Will Come Soft Rains

    There Will Come Soft Rains
    In California there is a fully self functioning house that states events that are happening. One of its walls are burnt though, and all you can see are five pictures such as children throwing a ball and a man mowing a lawn. At the end of the rainy day the house reads the poem called "There Will Come Soft Rains" in honor of the women who once lived in the house
  • The Million-Year Picnic

    The Million-Year Picnic
    William Thomas takes his family of three children and a wife on what is supposed to be a fishing trip/ picnic and tells them he is moving them to Mars. He says there is no longer an Earth as he wants to give his family a better life with more opportunity. He tells his children and wife they are now Martians and he burns all his documents and maps that could possibly tie him or his family to Earth.
