The Louisiana Purchase
In the year of 1803, France sold us the Louisiana Territory. This later became known as the Louisianan Purchase. We added 800,000 sq miles to the United States, and for the price of 15 million dollars. We got 4 cents per acre of land. Before, we only had 17 states in the U.S., after the Louisiana Purchase we added 15 more to our territory. The new land provided us with the resources we needed, and aloud us to expand westward, to disover new animals, plants, natives, and waterways for trade. -
14 May 1804, Corps Of Discovery
The Corp of Discovery was a established unit by the army. It was the start of the Lewis and Clark expidition. It took place between May 1804 and September 1806. Led jointly by Captain Meriwether Lewis and Second Lieutenant William Clark. Commissioned by President Thomas Jefferson. They had to study and discover new plants, animals, and other important information on their expidition westward. -
18 June 1812, The Forgotten War/ War of 1812
This lasted fro two and a half years between America and Great Britian. Britain supported Native Tribes and gave them weapons and other goods they could use against American settlers. At the end of the war both sides signed the Treaty of Ghent and both parties returned occupied land to its pre-war owner and resumed friendly trade relations. -
2 December 1823, The Monroe Doctrine
This was a document that stated Europe cannot settle or mess in American affairs, and if they did it would be viewed as a act of agression. In return the United States would neither interfere with existing European colonies or meddle in the internal concerns of European countries.The United States, working in agreement with Britain, wanted to guarantee that no European power would move in. -
28 May 1830, The Indian Removal Act/ Trail of Tears
This was passed by Congress on May 28, 1830, during the presidency of Andrew Jackson. The president negotiated with the indian tribes by giving them territory west of the mississippi in exchange for their homelands. The tribes made up of the Chickasaw, Choctaw, Muscogee-Creek, Seminole, and original Cherokee Nations, They were later forced/escorted from their lands to their new land by American soldiers. -
3 March 1843, Florida Territory
It was a incorperated of the United States, it existed from March 30, 1822, until March 3, 1845. Then it was admitted into the union as the state of Flordia. Florida was first discovered in 1513 by Juan Ponce de León who claimed the land as a possession of Spain. The Adams-Onís Treaty, also known as the Transcontinental Treaty, was signed on February 22, 1819 by John Quincy Adams and Luis de Onís. -
29 December 1845, Texas
It is Geographically located in the south central part of the country. Due to its size and geologic features, Texas contains diverse landscapes that resemble both the American South and Southwest. It was ruled over Mexico for a very long time. Texas soon became The Republic of Texas. They won a war with the president of Mexico, Santa Anna, and gained their independence. -
25 April 1846, Mexican/American War and The Alamo
A conflict between the United States and the Centralist Republic of Mexico from 1846 to 1848. It followed in the 1845 U.S. annexation of Texas, which Mexico considered part of its territory, despite the 1836 Texas Revolution. They invaded parts of Northeastern Mexico and Northwest Mexico. They later captured the president of Mexico, Sanata Anna, and forced him to sign over independence to Texas. -
14 Febuary 1859, Oregon Territory
This was once cut in half by America and Britain in equal halfs. It existed from August 14, 1848, until February 14, 1859, when the southwestern portion of the territory was admitted to the Union as the State of Oregon. America wanted all of oregon and would go to war if they didnt.
