Exposition
Ted lives in Thneedville. There are no trees, dirt, or even grass in Thneedville. -
Exposition
Ted is in love with an older girl (Audrey) and will do anything to try to win her over. He bought a model airplane and purposely got it stuck in her backyard. -
Rising Action
Audrey takes Ted into her backyard to get his model airplane and shows him her paintings on her house of Trufulla Trees. She says she would probably marry any man on the spot who got her a real, living tree. -
Rising Action
Ted asks his grandmother how he can get a real tree, and she said you have to talk to the Onceler. -
Rising Action
Ted's grandmother tells him he will have to leave town, and go to where no one else is to find the Onceler and he will have to bring him five cents, a nail, and the shell of a great grandfather snail. So he does. -
Rising Action
Ted finally gets to the Onceler's house and rings the doorbell but its a trap. He finds himself facing a window with wood closing it off. A green hand reaches out and starts asking what he is doing there and whats he wants. When Ted answers he was told if he brought the snail, five cents, and a nail he would tell him about trees. Then the Onceler gets quiet.. -
Rising Action
The onceler didn't think anyone cared about trees or what happened to them, but Ted told him he did. The Onceler said he is the reason why they are all gone. Then it goes into a flash back of what had happened to the trees and the Onceler was setting off to find the perfect material for his invention, a thneed. -
Rising Action
The Onceler finds a place full of trees, trufulla trees. He decides it is the perfect material for his thneed and beings to chop down the first thneed. -
Climax
The clouds begin to stir, the animals all rush away, and lightening strikes the truffula tree stump. Then the Lorax pops out. -
Climax
The Lorax and all the wodland creatures begin to put rocks around the tree stump. Then the L:orax confronts the Onceler about cutting down the tree and says, "I am the Lorax, I speak for the trees. And I'd like to say a few words if you please." He tries to convince the Onceler to leave, but he is determined to stay. . -
Climax
That night, the Lorax tries to send the Onceler away peacefully by putting his bed down the river. It goes fine until he realizes that one of the little bears is on the bed with him. The Onceler and the bear begin to go to rough parts of the river, when they finally hit the waterfall. -
Fallign Action
The Lorax pushes a boulder over the cliff and it hits the bed and flings the Onceler and the little bear, Pip Squeak, off the river right before they come to the waterfall. -
Falling Action
The Lorax and all the woodland creatures stayed with the Onceler that night and when he woke up to them all over his house. The Lorax still tries to get the Onceler to get out and stop cutting trees. The Onceler agrees to stop cutting down trees, but he still makes one thneed. -
Rising Action
The Lorax thinks the thneed is stupid and in convinced nobody will buy it. But the Onceler is convinced everyone needs a thneed, so he goes to town every day for many days and tries to sell it. He gets no buyers and throws the thneed away. It lands on a girls head and everyone loves it as a hat. -
Climax
Now everyone sees how cool the thneed is and wants one. They all go to the forest and convince the Onceler they will buy many. -
Climax
The Onceler gets so caught up in all of it he starts cutting down many more trufulla trees and making thneeds. -
Climax
The Onceler has many factories to make thneeds for everyone now. The Lorax tries to stop the Onceler from cutting down the trees and he says nothing can stop him, but then the last trufulla tree falls and the Lorax and all of the animals leave so they can try to find a new place to live. -
Falling Action
Now no more thneeds will be made or sold. The animals are all gone, and The Onceler has no other job. His family thinks that they have been ket down so they leave him. The air is so smoggy from all the thneed factories that people are coughing and can barely breathe. -
Rising Action
Mr. O'hare gets an idea to sell air. He built a new Thneedville that does not have any trees, grass, or even dirt. Even the bugs are electronic. -
Rising Action
Ted decides the only way to get out of town and back to the Onceler is by going over the huge city wall. He gets on his motor cycle thing and drives through peoples houses, on the tops of their houses until he can finally get over the wall. When he does he goes back to the Onceler. -
Rising Action
The Onceler and Ted continue to talk about trees and what happened and the Onceler points to a rock the Lorax left that said "Unless". He finally figured out what the rock ment after staring at it for years. "Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better, it's not." -
Climax
The Onceler says that Ted is the only one who can change things and the way they are. He has to show Thneedville and all the town people that trees are important. The Onceler drops a seed down to Ted. The last trufulla tree seed. -
Rising Action
Ted decides to go back home and tells his grandmother he is working on the tree thing. When he leaves town again to go see the Onceler to find out more about trees, the city and Mr. O'hare catch him and say he is never to leave town. Ted realizes there are hidden cameras all over town that monitor everyone so Mr. O'hare knows what everyone is doing. -
Rising Action
Mr. O'hare finds out Ted has a seed in his posession and wants it destroyed. He runs up to his room and gets water and a shovel. The water spills on the seed. -
Rising Action
Mr. O'hare and his workers bust into Ted's house demanding the seed. Ted acts like he has no clue what they are talking about and they say they are watching him and leave. -
Rising Action
Ted goes downstairs and can't find the seed. He sees his Grammy sitting on the couch holding the seed which has sprouted because water got spilled on it. When Audry gets to Ted's house, he quickly pulls her in and shows her the last truffula tree seed. They decide a good spot to plant it is in the middle of town so everyone can see it. -
Rising Action
Mr. O'hare is informed Ted has left with the seed and he and his workers leave and chase his moms car to try to get the seed. They finally catch her on a bridge that is being made, only to find out that Ted is not in the car with her. -
Rising Action
Ted is on his motor scooter with Audry and his Grammy. O'hare is chasing them all over town. A drift of wind steals the seed from Ted's posession and lands in one of the O'hare Air containers. Grammy grabs it with her cane. When they finally get all the O'hare people away, they go to the middle of town. -
Climax
In the middle of town, Audry realizes there is no dirt. So Ted gets on a giant bull dozer and knocks the head off the O'hare statue. By doing this he broke the ground and found dirt underneath. He and Audry dig a hole for it and right when they are about to, they are stopped by O'hare people. -
Climax
Mr. O'hare tries to convince everyone that trees are horrible becasue they bring bees and leaves. But Audry jumps in and says they are great because they produce photosynthesis which is free air. -
Climax
Ted is tired of looking like the bad guy, so he gets in the bull dozer and knocks the towns wall down. All of the poeple see what used to be covered in trees, with animals, the earth. What they are really living in, but surrounded by giant walls. They all start to consider the tree. -
Falling Action
The town people realize that Mr. O'hare has been making these people pay for air, when it is free. Mr. O'hare still tries to kill the tree but the town poeple want to let it grow. -
Falling Action
The people strap a jet pack onto Mr. O'hare and send him away. Ted and Audry plant the tree. Audry kisses Ted on the cheek and Ted is happy because he planted the tree and "got" Audry. -
Resolution
The Onceler finally comes out of his house and waters all the tiny truffula tree sprouts. A bird comes back and he smiles. Then, the Lorax comes out from the sky again and thanks the Onceler for getting trees back.
