Birth
I was born in a small town in Ireland. I had two older brothers and one younger one. We didn't live a rich life, but we had something and thats more than anyone could ask for where I lived. My childhood was not to bad and our family had their own business, to insure that we all would have jobs when we were older. However, my mother died when I was four and my father died when I was seven. Leaving my older brothers to care for me and my other younger brother. -
Coming to America
One of my older brothers decided it would be best if we went to America in search of a better life. However, that meant leaving my other two brothers behind in case America didn't work out, we could go back. It was hard saying goodbye to my brothers. When we got on the ship it was packed full. We were on that ship for what seemed like a year before we reached the Statue of Liberty. I'll never forget that moment I first saw the statue, seeing it gave me a new sense of freedom and hope. -
Angel Island
Right after we got off the boat we were at this place called Angel Island. The place that decided our fate. When it was our turn they took us and examined us to see if we were healthy. It took awhile but then we were cleared and we went through these doors and went and traded our money in for U.S money. After we opened the doors to America and took in everything, we started our way to find a place to live. -
First American home....and event
After we got out of Angel Island we found a nice house in California. However, we had only been there for just a while when my older brother told me he had a job. I was shocked. Then he told me that if was mining gold. I had heard of the gold rush and how my brother want to join but I didn't think he would. I knew that this gold rush wouldn't last long; I also knew it was a chance for me to get a small job. So, the next day I went in search of a job and found one cleaning a shop. -
The new president
Lincoln That was the day Lincoln was elected president. Him winning seemed to make a lot of trouble but I just thought it would cool down after awhile. However, it didn't, things got worst and worst. We were afraid we would have to move if things keep going the way they were going. This new president seemed to have a new way of dealing with things and I hoped this wouldn't start anything to serious. -
The railroads
My brother was really worried that day he thought we were going to have to move. However, I had good news, I had got myself a job building railroads. It wasn't the safest job in the world but we needed money and I had to do something to help. I made almost enough for 3/4 of the bill we payed. -
Date of Death
He died after he was injured at work and couldn't recover.
P.s. the rest of his brothers came to America in 18 70.
