His education
William received his early education in school which his father ran Marlborough Grammar School, when he was 12 he tempted to write his first book and was unsuccessful and relived his frustration on his peers. When William was done with primary school he began attending Brasenose Collage at Oxford in 1930 and spent 2 years studying science in his fathers beliefs. -
His teaching
He decided to follow in his father's footsteps and teach English and philosophy in Salisbury, he left teaching in 1940 to join the Royal Navy. He worked in settlement houses, writer and a producer with a small theatre in London and a social worker to pay his bills. -
His career
He published his first novel Lord of the Flies, in 1983 he was awarded the Nobel Prize for literature. He married Ann Brookfield and then had 2 children and remained in his teaching position until 1961.
