    The Kongo empire was founded in the 1300 and lasted until the 1800's when the Portuguese took over.

    King Nzinga Coverts to Christianity

    As king, he chose to conver to Christianity. After, he coverted the empire. Remained Chritian for the next 200 years.

  • Dona Ana Nzinga Becomes Queen

    As Queen she expanded the control of the Kongo Empire and become a powerful force. She battled against the Portuguese and won.

  • Garcia II Becomes King

    During his reign he reduced conflict with the Portuguese by creating a treaty. In exchange for minerals, the Portuguese woul stay out of slave trade, for the most part.

  • Dona Beatriz Starts Her Movement

    She created a movement, after having a vision os St. Anthony, that was suppossed to restore the Kongo Empire to its previous glory. It gained the followers of the common people, but no large changes were ever made.
