Battle of Brawner's Farm
Their first battle, in which the Iron Brigade was then known as the Black Hat Brigade. The Iron Brigade performed outstandingly under John Gibbon, where it stood up to a largely superior force sent by Stonewall Jackson. -
Battle of Antietam
The Iron Brigade served in this battle. They repelled a largely outnumbering charge from the Confederates and managed to push the confederate lines back, ripping a hole in Stonewall Jackson's lines. -
