The Industrial Revolution
"The Industrial Revolution, which took place from the 18th to 19th centuries, was a period during which predominantly agrarian, rural societies in Europe and America became industrial and urban" (History 1). The Industrial Revolution was the beggining of new inventions, products, goods, and services being created. People began to move from the rural, farm areas to the urban, city areas. This big move was a huge stepping stone in history to becoming more advanced and making life more efficient. -
The "Spinning Jenny"
"Around 1764, Englishman James Hargreaves (1722-1778) invented the spinning jenny..., a machine that enabled an individual to produce multiple spools of threads simultaneously" (History 1). The invention of the Spinning Jenny made cloth and other fabric production faster and more efficient. The faster things could be produced, the faster things would be shipped across the ocean and the faster the products could be sold. This would then make for money for the businesses that produced the goods. -
The Stock Exchange
"New York Stock Exchange was founded in the early 1790s" (History 1). The New York Stock Exchange was a huge deal in the United States. People could buy shares of their favorite companies. As the stocks values increased, they could sell their shares back and make a profit or they could buy more stocks, hoping for the value to increase. It was, however, a risky thing to do. The New York Stock Exchange is still aroudn today and millions of people buy and trade stocks. -
The Start of Streamboats
"In the early 1800s, American Robert Fulton (1765-1815) built the first commercially successful steamboat, and by the mid-19th century, steamships were carrying freight across the Atlantic" (History 1). The invention of the steamboat was a huge deal during this time. There was now a way to transport goods across the ocean safely and much quicker. The steamboats played a very important role during the Industrial Revolution and still play an important role today. -
The Raging Railroads
" In the early 1800s, British engineer Richard Trevithick (1771-1833) constructed the first railway steam locomotive". The invention of the first steam engine (train) was a huge deal. Food, goods, and animals could be shipped across the country much faster than they were before. As steam locomotives became more popular, the more track was needed to be laid. This opened up job opportunities for people willing to construct the railroads, benefiting the governement and the economy. -
Agriculture movement
"worldwide agricultural movement, but it began in Mexico" (History 1). The beginning of the expansion of agriculture was a huge deal during the 1900s. There were now faster ways to plant, harvest, and get the crops where they needed to go. Without such a big move in agriculture, things may not be the same as they are today.
