Samuel Slater - Textile Machine
Samuel Slater (June 9, 1768 – April 21, 1835) Samuel Slater was the first in America to build and operate the textile machine. Before factories, most manufacturing was done in small shops or homes. Women, children, and immigrants did most of the work in the factories. He brought the textile machine design to the US in 1789. -
Eli Whitney - Cotton Gin
Eli Whitney (December 8, 1765 – January 8, 1825) Eli Whitney invented the Cotton Gin, which mechanically separated the seeds from the cotton pulp. The cotton gin cleaned up to 50 pounds of cotton a day. The cotton gin was invented on March 14, 1794 in Mulberry Grove, Illinois. Before he created the Cotton gin people removed only one pound of cotton a day. -
Robert Fulton - Steamboat
Robert Fulton (November 14, 1765 – February 24, 1815) Robert Fulton invented the first boat to be completely powered by steam. The steamboat became one of the fastest methods of shipping and transportation because of its quicker speed and access to the Mississippi River. He invented the steamboat in 1803 in France. His steamboat had an average speed of about 5 MPH -
Samuel Morse - Telegraph Machine
Samuel Finley Breese Morse (April 27, 1791 – April 2, 1872) Samuel Morse invented a telegraph machine that used a series of dots and lines to send coded messages along wires to the senders destination. He invented the telegraph in 1837 in Boston, Massachusetts. This invention led to faster and more safer communication between cities and businesses. Before he invented the telegraph machine people had to deliver messages by horse, which took a long time. -
John Deere - Steel Plow
John Deere developed the world's first successful steel plow. The steel plow was used for breaking up tough soil. He created it in Grand Detour, Illinois in 1837. Before the steel plow was invented people had to break up the soil by hand. -
Steamboat - Now
We dont use steam powered boats anymore. We use boats powered by gas, oil, engines and propellers. Some boats use different products to make them move . It all depends on its size. John L. Hacker made the first moterbat in 1908. In 1911, he designed the ‘Kitty Hawk’, the first successful step hydroboat which exceeded 50 mph. -
Steel Plow - Now
We still use the steel plow now. It is a necessity to farmers. Now we use a bigger steel plow capable of plowing a larger area. Now its a mutli-million dollar business. They make a wide selection of farming products. -
Textile Machine - Now
We still use textile machines to make our clothes and shoes. Without the textile machine clothes could be more expensive because they have to be made by hand. THE YEAR ON THIS IS NOT ACCURATE. -
Telegraph - Now
On 3 April 1973, Martin Cooper, a Motorola researcher and executive, made the first analog mobile phone call using a heavy prototype model. Motorola introduced the 16-ounce "DynaTAC" phone into commercial service in 1983, with each phone costing $3,500. Cell phones are a necessity to everybody around the world.
