    One of the only reasons that the church allowed plays was because most people could not read or write so they could not read the bible. So they allowed plays so people could learn about their religion.

    In 1660 the first women were allowed on stage. Some of the most well known Elizebeth Barry, Anne Bracegirdle and Isabella Andreini. Before then young boys were used to play the womens role. Yes that means the first Juliet was a boy.

    In the 1820 more working clase people started going to the theater and spiecial effects and variety shows.

    One of my favorite plays in 2006 they made In the Heights by Lin Manuel Miranda. And this is one of the first musicals with rapping instead of singing and that just show the change in modern theater.
  • The 21 first century

    There really isn't any rule of what can be played now. It can be from Romeo and Juliet to Rapping instead of music. Really there are no rules for theater!
  • The long plays

    Sometimes like at lent a town would throw a 40 day play! To celebrate lent. They would change actors every day and they would have many different scenes going on at once. For exemple they would have Judis betraying Jeuses at one place and Peter denying Jeuses in another.
  • My predicton

    I predict that theater will be entertaining us long into the future and possibley forever!
