The Feather Pen
The feather pen, or the quill, was first documented being used back in the 7th century. There is an exception though, it is speculated that the Dead Sea Scrolls were written down using a quill. After that, the feather pen was slowly growing until the 15th century where it became widespread and more popular. Almost everyone used quills, until metal pens were produced making the feather pen obsolete. http://www.historyofpencils.com/writing-instruments-history/history-of-quill-pens/ -
The Fountain Pen
One of the earliest mentions of a pen with a reservoir was in the17th century where an inventor made a fountan pen with two quills, one leading the ink into the other. Writings said, in 1663, that a metal pen would carry the ink. In the 19th century, there were multiple patents trying to create their version, nibs were cheaper. All these pens had to be manually filled using an eye dropper until early 20th century.
