    The Formation of the Earth

    The earth formed about 4.54 billion years ago.
  • Period: 4000 BCE to 2500 BCE

    Archean Eon

    Earth's crust cooled down enough to allow the formation of continents and life began its development. During this period of time, the moon also collided with the earth, the collision made a huge impact on the climate, oceans, and life on Earth.
  • Period: 2500 BCE to 541 BCE

    Proterozoic Eon

    During this eon, oxygen appeared and which made the earth suitable for complex life.
  • Period: 542 BCE to 251 BCE

    Paleozoic Era

    At the start of the era, the first supercontinent broke up, and throughout this period of time, plants became very widespread and the first kind of vertebrate animal colonized land.
  • Period: 250 BCE to 65 BCE

    Mesozoic Era

    This era starts and ends with two mass-distinctions. This era also includes 3 more specific periods called the Triassic, Jurassic, and Cretaceous periods.
  • Period: 66 BCE to 1 BCE

    Cenozoic Era

    The start of this era was the demise of the dinosaurs caused by the hit of the6-miles wide asteroid. This caused the temperature to drop extremely.
