The oldest recorded prosthetics
The first recorded prosthetic were recorded during the time of the Romans. when people had their limbs cutoff, especially soldiers they would replace them with devices to help the, in battle. But in the recent years, archeologists have ,are a discovery in Ciaro, Egypt, this discovery was a 3000 years old wooden toes attached to a mummy using leather. This is the oldest known prothetic used. (NOTE: the actual prothetic was dated back to 950-715 B.C.) -

The begining of amputation
Ambroise Pare, a french surgeon devolped the technic of amputating. This was very important medical break through because it saved te live of many people. Later on, Pare then began making prosthetics. This is important to the timeline of prosthetics because it is a key part in having a prosthetic. -
articulated knee-and-foot prosthesis
in 1800 james pott invented the articulated knee-and-foot prosthesis. This became very popular and eventually found its way in the us where an apprentice of james pott tweaked it more and created an even better limb. -

in 1818 a german dentist developed a full prosthetic arm. This arm was functioned by using the opposite torso. -
Ankle amputation
in 1843, Sir James Syme discovered and better way of amputating the ankle. Before Syme’s discovery, the method used to amputate the ankle involved severing the thigh as well. This made many amputees very happy because they didn’t have to have an entire leg prosthetic but only a foot which makes it much easier to walk on. -

The prothetic revolution during th civil in in the US
During the civil war, 70,000 soldiers lost their limbs during the battles. Since medical technology wasn't great back then and surgeons weren't very skilled,vampy could save their limbs. The U.S. gover promised that they will give prothetics to everyone who lost their limbs in the war. This dubious take was actually the start of a new age of more light weight prothetics. in 1863 the rubber hand was invented. this proved to be a much more favorable material to use rather than the standard wood and iron. The rubber hand was more resilient. The hand was more flexible and yielded better under pressure. -

in 1863, Dubois Parmelee invented the suction prosthetic for both the arms and the legs. This is extremely important because to this day we still use this device in modern prosthetics. -

Moving Parts
in the 1960’s there became the era of moving parts. Russia created the first moving hand then shortly afterwards the US created the moving arm. In these inventions, the moving hand was more efficient, coordinated and easy to use. -
The beginning of the special Olympics
The start of the special Olympic is important to the history of the prosthecs because it gave opportunities to those who were disabled to compete in sorts and the Olympics. This also the advancement of sport prosthetics which gave people the opportunity to do sports even though they had a missing limb. Eunice Kennedy Shiver with the help of the White House committee during the presidency of JFK, made the first special olympics in Soldier Field in Chicago, Illinois, USA. -

Ysidro M. Martinez, invented the below knee prosthetic in 1975. This is important to the evolution of prosthetic because he created a limb, unlike others that was based off of and actual foot, with a center of mass that was light and helped reduce the friction and pressure that other artificial limbs caused. -
Artificial heart
In 1982, the first permanent artificial heart was created. The invented was Robert Jarvik who first tested his device on William DeVries. DeVries sadly, did not live for too long, only a couple of days but he hoped that what happened gave scientist a better idea of what will happen. -
Prosthetics for animals
in 2005, a dolphin named winter lost her tail that was caught in a booby trap along the florida coast. Scientist fitted a artificial tail on her and now she is happy and healthy again. Without the help of the artificial tail, Winter would’ve had died right from the start because dolphins need their tail to survive. -
The bionic hand
the most recent improvement on the prosthetic was in 2007 when a company by the name ‘touch bionic’ developed the bionic hand that can be moved with technology. 200 people including soldier and children have this new device. this will move the development of prosthetics a lot because these new limbs can move with much more ease and accuracy. -

in the 2012 summer olympics, the first ever double amputee ran against able bodied athletes. -
The mind controlled arm
in 2013, a man that goes by Magnus was fitted with an arm that was able to use the power of his mind to pick up an egg without smashing it. The researchers in charge were able to do this in Chamlers university in sweden -
Robotic Prosthetic
in 2013 Shiva Nathan created a robotic prosthetic using only a $30 computer and supplies from radio shack. He is only 16 (and not even in college) and has developed this device after he heard that one of his cousins got in an accident and lost both of her arms.
