University of Oregon track athlete Phil Knight and Coach Bill Bowerman found BRS (Blue Ribbon Sports). -
BRS Starts selling shoes
In 1964, BRS becomes a distributor for Onitsuka Tiger (now known as ASICS). And sells the Nike "waffle" out of the back of Knights car. The shoes were originally made from an actual waffle iron.Phil Knight once said "I saw Bowerman making shoes with a waffle iron, and they were mine." -
Nike is official
In 1971, the relationship between BRS and Onitsuka Tiger was coming to an end. So, BRS prepared to launch their own line and introduced the Nike "swoosh" designed by Carolyn Davidson. -
The first ad
In 1976, Nike created their first brand ad called "There Is No Finish Line." In the same year, a partnership with Dan Weidman coined the famous slogan "Just Do It". It was inspired by a felon who was being executed and his last words were "Let's Do It". -
Jordan gets a contract
In 1984, Michael Jordan received a shoes deal with Nike and debuted the Air Jordan 1. -
The Air Mag is introduced
In 1985, Marty McFly wore the Nike "Air Blazers" when he went to the "future" in the movie, "Back to the Future". The Nike "Air Mag" was later reinvented by Tinker Hatfield with self lacing technology. -
Nike opens HQ
In 1990, Nike opened an 8 building headquarter in Beaverton,Oregon. The building is closed to the public. You can only be invited or be an employee to enter. -
The future
Nike is working on releasing the Hyperadapt 1.0. It's going to be the first self lacing shoes on the market. Nike still continues to make shoes and equipment.
