Mobile Technology started arising -
1968-1970
Dynabooks appeared! It was the first personal and portable computer created by Alan Kay. It was originally created for children for educational purposes but later on it was used for military purposes too. -
1970
The development of personal computers for educational purposes continued when XeroX Alto introduced the a computer which was assisted with mouse usage. -
1975
The portable computer revolution continues with IBM 5000, which was the first portable computer available on the market. -
1984
Macintosh introduced the first portable computer which included more "extras", and it could perform multitasking activities. -
1996
PalmOS was released. It was the first handheld small mobile device that empowered learning to students by its usage. -
21st Century
During the 21st century, MALL became a recognized term in the field of education. From the early 2000 until now, mobile learning is highly encouraged and engaged in classroom activities, and it is used for outside classroom learning purposes too. -
2001
The Mobile Learning Project appeared and it started a serious investigation of how can mobile learning invlolved in education. -
2004
The field of Mobile Learning was enriched with Google's launch of "Book Search" and "Google Scholar" which are tools for resources research used until now. -
2005
Quanta launched the "One laptop per child" project and produced the XO laptops which were laptops made for children for educational purposes. This movement benefited importantly the mobile learning field, -
2007
Apple started its revolution by introducing various devices like iPads, iPhones etc. in the market. The iTunes U application which was empowered only by Apple's devices started to be used in the field of education by teachers and students, as it was a Free Learning Centre. -
2009
Books went electronic and mobile too! The first electronic learning books were published online in order to be used interactively by students and teachers for both inside and outside classroom environments. -
2010
The specific year was named as the "Year of Tablet" as Android, iPad etc. started being necessary tools not only for students and teachers but for families too. Tablet which is a multitasking tool which is empowering both computers and mobile devices features, became a highly useful tool in the field of education as students can work on different activities by using them. -
2011
BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) started srpeading in education as students started being "dependent" from their mobile devices -
2011-2017
Mobile Assisted Language Learning is now an important topic in the field of education as it is enhancing importantly the learning process and outcomes. MALL due to its cost-efficiency, mobility and philosophy is highly preffered by educators who are willing to engage technology in their classrooms in order to cause frutiful outcomes and increase students motivation to learn.
