Dr Joseph Bell
1866 Manual of the Operations of Surgery
Dr Bell saw the need for attention to detail in observation and is concidered a pioneer in forensic pathology. in 1866, he published a medical textbook in the midst of his forensics career. -
Edmond Locard
In 1910, Lyon police department in France offered Locard the chance to form the worlds first official crime lab to process case evidence. This did not happen until 1912, however. Regardless, this is one of the first steps toward utilizing modern science in crime investigations. -
Sir Bernard Spilsbury
Spilsbury worked hard to bring merit to the largely discredited field of pathology. In 1915, using his observations of goose flesh on a woman's corpse, he deduced that her death was a result of foul play and therefore, there was a murderer on the loose. -
Professor Cedric Keith Simpson
An English pathologist and Forensics Professor, Simpson published a textbook he had written during the War and later, he preformed the first record of odontology for a murder case and identified Robert Gorringe as the killer of his wife. -
Francis Edward Camps
In the trial of John Christie, Camps used the evidence to analyze the 10 bodies that had been found at 10 Rillington Place, a major case in the history of forensic science as it was vital to the case. -
Dr William Bass
Dr. Bass is most well-known for founding the University of Tennessee Anthropological Research Facility, better known as the "Body Farm" where forensic scientists can study the decomposition of corspes under various conditions. This allows modern and future scientists to beter estimate time of death. -
Robert P. Spalding
In 1976 Spalding published "Technical and Legal Aspects of Forensic Serology"
He was a renowned expert in blood stain patterns and during his career taught the FBI how to analyze the scene with his knowledge of the subject. -
Dr Sara C. Bisel
From 1981 to 1988, employed by the Smithsonian, Bisel conduted independent research that furthered the forensic knowledge of anthropology. She also investigated the bones of the victims of the erruption of Mount Vesuvius in Italy. -
William R Maples
American forensic anthropologist Maples was recruited in 1992 by the Russian government to investigate the trauma and death of the royal family of Tsar Nicholas II. His findings were more than any examination before had recovered. Over the course of his career his expertise shed light on more than 1200 cases. -
Dr Frederic Whitehurst
During his career, Whitehurst was employed by the FBI and permitted to research explosions and became a world renowed expert in explosive residue. His expertise made him an expert wittness in the court proceedings after the 1993 bombing attack on the World Trade Center in New York and the trial of Timothy McVeigh for the Oklahoma City Bombing. -
