During the War
With the war still going on, there was strict fabric rationing. Dress hemlines went up to the knee instead of mid-calf. The most popular trends were hourglass figures, high-waisted tops, A-line skirts, headwear and plaid. Due to the fabric rationing, the bikini was created. -
After the War
After the war, things did not immediately go back to normal in the fashion industry or in the real world. For a few years they had to continue rationing but the in 1948 came back and the rationing was over! The trends were similar to during the war but there were more bright colors and frilly dresses. -
1950s
The 1950s, an era full of poodle skirts, paired circle cardigans, kitten heels, peter pan collars, gloves just barely past the wrist, swing coats for the winter, sheath dresses and jewelry such as pearls, brooches, and sweater clips. -
1960s
While pearls and perfectly tailored suit dresses where the 'hot new thing' in the 50s', supermodel Twiggy helped introduce clothes that women could wear without any extra thought: short skirts, tye dye, and extremely long hair. Closer to the 70s, there was fringe, tan and bell bottom pants. -
1970s
In the 70s we saw bell bottoms, fringe and peace signs became popular. While disco wear, afros, short shorts, and extremely bright flamboyant colors dominated the dance floor. -
1980s
To sum up the 80s in one word: more. There was no such thing as too much neon blue eye shadow or too much hairspray. Crazy sky high, wind blown hair sprayed hair, bold colors and oversized blazers were considered fashion forward.So were ripped tights, bangles, hoops and turtleneck sweaters. Sports players attire was also very popular for younger kids. -
1990s
The 90s was a unique era. Some of the hottest trends were black leggings, oversized jackets, low heels, flannel, demin, and Keds. Plaid/flannel was one of the most popular trends in 90s because of grunge music. Some preppier trends were reflected in movies such as the iconic 90s film, Clueless. -
2000s
From tube tops, to mini handbags, strappy sandals to cargo pants, the 2000s was an extremely fun era. Baguette bags,baggy jeans,leopard print, wedge mule shoes, all trends that were 'yes' in the fashion world. -
2019!
