In the early to mid nineties grunge was the new goth and it all started with the band nirvania. It was the look of rebelling against the yuppie look of the 80's or the Anti-Fashion look as they liked to call it. In Los Angeles four white policemen were videotaped as the beat Rodney King, an African American man, during a traffic violation arrest. The video ignited the worst racial riot in U.S history. By the time it was over fifty-five people were killed, more than 4,000 people were injured, more than 12,000 people were arrested, and more than 5,000 buildings were destroyed. -

River Pheonix was at Johnny Depp's club when he first started doing drugs in the bathroom with his drug dealer friends who offered him some heroine. Immediately after snorting the drug he started shaking and vomiting so he asked his friends to take him outside. When he finally got outside he fell on the sidewalk and started having uncontrollable seizures. The paramedics were called and River was rushed to Cedars Sinai Medical Center, but it was too late and he was announced dead at 1:51 am. -

World Events: Genocide in Rwanda
One of the groups in Rwanda was the Hutu who wanted to destroy the entire Tutsi, another group in Rwanda, population. They first started killing off political leaders and other high profile opponents who might be able to take over. Then they went house by house killing each family in their own homes. Over 200,000 people participated in the 100 day genocide that killed 800,000 men, women, and children from the Tutsi population; they also killed thousands of the Hutu who were opposing to kill. -

World Events: The Arrest of Theodore Kaczynski
Theodore John Kaczynski also known as the "Unabomber" was arrested for bombing numerous areas and for the murders of three people. They found him just outside of Lincoln, Montana in a small shack in the woods. The FBI spent days searching his shack and found bomb parts, drawings, explosive chemicals, full detailed reports about the bombing, and one finished ready to mail bomb. He found guilty and was sentenced to life in jail. -
World Events: The Crash of TWA Flight 800
TWA Flight 800 was headed to Paris, France. They had the air conditioner on, which was heating the jet fuel in the center wing tank to a flashpoint. A voltage current had jumped into some wiring that went into the center wing tank causing a short circuit to happen. The small spark in the tank ignited the fuel creating a huge explosion that split the plane in half killing all 230 passengers on the plane. -
