The History of CALL

  • EARLY COMPUTERS (1940 - 1950)

    Computers were expensive and they were only used for mathematical purposes.
  • BEHAVIORISTIC CALL (1950 - 1960)

    Computers started to being used to teach. Also, computers had the role of the teacher and gave properly feedback to students.
  • COMMUNICATIVE CALL (1970 - 1980)

    Language teachers began to change the way they used computers to teach language. Teachers were creating more strategies. On the other hand, students were capable to interact with the computers and take control of it.
    The PC was invented in the lates 1970s, at that time computers were more useful and they were inexpensive.
  • INTEGRATIVE CALL (1990)

    CD ROMS were introduced with new programs that had images where students could learn in a different way. Besides, Hypermedia was used to provide images and files.
  • CALL TO THE FUTURE (2000s)

    Over the years, the internet became faster and the invention of more technology has risen. In addition, at this time computers are less expensive and students can develop more strategies to learn through computers and the internet.
