    The Mona Lisa

    Leonardo da Vinci begins painting the Mona Lisa and finshes it 3-4 years later. it was aquired by King Francis I of France and has been displayed in the louvre, Paris, since 1797
  • Death of William Shakespeare

    Shakespeare wrote most of his known work between 1589 and 1613, these included hamlet, King Lear, Othello and Macbeth.
  • Seven Years War

    Britain and Prussia defeat France, Spain, Austria and Russia. Also in India over 100 British prisoners die in the "Black Hole of Calcutta"
  • Declaration of Independence

    On the 4th of July 1776 13 American colonies declared themselves as independant soveirgn states.
  • Rail Transport

    John Blenkinshop invented a steam engine which had cogs on one of its wheels. these gripped an extra rail laid down on the normal rail line and gave the train more grip.
  • Spanish Inquisition

    in 1834 the Spanish Inquisition that was established in 1478 by the cathoic monarch Ferdinand II and Isabella I finally ends.
