Newspaper Advertisements
In the 16 and 17th centuries advertisements started to appear in weekly newspapers. This concept of publishing adverts in newspapers started in Venice but quickly spread to countries like Italy, Germany, and Holland. -
Business Cards
During the 1670's a man named Johnathan Holder, a London haberdasher, would give everyone of his customers a piece of paper that that listed all of his inventory as well as their prices. By the 18th century these "business cards" became developed in the more modern style that we are used to today with the businesses contact on the card instead of inventory cost. -
Magazine Advertisements
In 1741, Benjamin Franklin released the first ever know magazine that contained several different business advertisements. It is speculated that Franklin was widely responsible for the popularization of Advertisements. -
Psychological Advertisement
In the early 20th century, psychologists Walter D. Scott and John B. Watson applied the use of Psychology to increase the effectiveness of adverts on the populace. -
Radio Advertising
With the arrival of the Radio in the 1900's the first Advertisement was soon released via broadcast by AT&T.
