    French Language was used for official business. Latin was still used in church. Middle English.

    The Hundred Years War against France.

    English and French were spoken. Shakespeare added about 2000 new words and phrases.

    The English began to establish overseas colonies. English went to the Caribbean and North America and added words from these territories. Modern English.

    Samuel Johnson published his famous dictionary in 1755, lasted eight years to compile and listed 40,000 words.

    The web was invented by English scientist Tim Bernes-Lee in 1989. The universal language on the internet is English.

    It is a global means of communication in numerous of dialects and the movement towards an international standard for the language.
