Proclamation of 1763
The British issued Proclamation of 1763 to protect British settlers by seperating the Indians west of the Appalachian mountains. Also, in order for fur traders to enter the territory, they had to receive permission from the British crown. -
Sugar Act of 1764
This act placed import taxes on sugar, molasses, and many other imported good that came into Brtish ruled colonies. -
Stamp Act of 1765
The Stamp Act put taxes on any document that was printed.To use any sort of paper, a stamp was necessary and it indicated that the tax was paid. -
Quartering Act
This act stated that American coloies' local givernment must provide housing and host the British soldiers. -
Stamp Act Congress
The first gathering that took place from October 7th to the 25th. It consisted of British American colonists planning to protest the British taxation. -
Declaratory Act
The Declaratory Act was the repeal of the Stamp Act of 1765 because the British were being boycotted which was hurting their trade and economy. -
Townshend Acts
The Townshend Acts placed an import tax on everyday items such as,tea, lead, glass, and paint dyes. These acts were enforced by the writs of assistance. They were created by Charles Townshed. -
Boston Massacre
A historic riot in Boston because of the resentment of Boston colonists toward British troops in the city who fired their guns and killed many colonists. -
Tea Act
An act of the British Parliament that made complete ownership unfair to American sellers of Tea; the main reason for the Boston Tea Party. -
Boston Tea Party
The Boston Tea Party was a political protest by the Sons of Liberty in Boston against the tax policy of the British government and the East India Company that controlled all the tea imported into the colonies. Officials in Boston refused to return shiploads of taxed tea to Britain, so in revolt, a group of colonists threw the tea into the Boston Harbor. -
Coercive Acts
A series of four acts that Parliament passed after the Boston Tea Party that punished the Boston patriots and to prevent further rebellion. Instead of preventing rebellion, it helped unify the colonies. -
Quebec Act
Extended Quebec's boundary south to the Ohio river which was already claimed by Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Virgina. Also, it granted religious freedom to French Roman Catholics. -
1st Continental Congress
Where representatives from every colony, except for Georgia, met on Septermber 5th in Philadelphia to consider economic options of grievances, such as the boycott of the British trade. -
Battles of Lexington/Concord
The first armed battles between the thirteen colonies and royal Britain near Boston in Middlesex County. -
2nd Continental Congress
The Second Continental Congress was a meeting that discussed the colonial war effort and talked about moving foward towards American Inddependence. -
Olive Branch Petition
A petition that showed American colonies' loyalty to Great Britain and asked for aid in order to prevent another huge war between Britain and the thirteen colonies. -
Declaration of Independence
The Declaration of Independence was a document that gave freedom from the American colonies and Great Britain; mostly written by Thomas Jefferson, but four others also wrote it.
