The Bronze Ge (Classical Period).
This weapon began to be reconized as a simple farming tool. Very soon the Bronze Ge was seen as an effective weapon. A long way it did come from its former stone form It became much stronger in its bronze sturdiness. It was seen throughout the later stages of the Han Dynasty as both ceremonial, and a melee weapon. The rectangular section connected to the dagger-axe allows the weapon to be placed onto a pole to increase the range of the greatest Chinese weapon of its time. -

Yanmaodao(Midieval Ages)
The Yanmaodao was very effective in close combat during the Yuan Dynasty. The lightly curved blade increased the allowed momentum against the flesh of the opposing army. This blade was very light, and only one-handed This makes it much easier to carry. Fear was no longer a factor in the eyes of its weilder. This weapon was chosen to be the one of the greatest Chinese melee weapon of its time because of its ability to take out enemies with ease, and with only one hand. -

Piandao(Renaissance Period)
This sword is a decendent from the "Dao". As you can see in the picture the blade has a slight curve for maximum velocity. These swords were mainly used in skirmishes during the Ming Dynasty. Because of the effective design, thsi weapon has been deemed the greatest weapon of it time, as far as melee weapons. -
Liuyedao(Exploration Period)
The Liuyedao is classified as the "Chinese Braodsword." It was defined as because of it's very large blade. This two-handed weapon is most deffinitely a deadly one. The worriors of the late Ming Dynasty weilded these swords in battle with much honor and power. The interesting, yet effective design and power is a few of the many reasons why this was chosen as the greatest Chinese melee weapon of its time. -

Niuweidao(Revolutionary Period)
The Niuweidao is one of the many decents from the Chinese "Dao". This melee weapon was used mainly by the Qing Dynasty of China. This weapon, like the sabers prior to this one, proved very effective in battle, the slight curve of the long-bladed battle The heavy tip was used to sever limbs of the opposing army. These are the reasons why this is claimed as the greatest Chinese melee weapon of its time. -

This weapon can be seen and classified as a "big knife," which is its literal translation. This weapon was effective in close combat against the Japanese soldiers. Zanmadao(Midieval Ages)
This weapon appears to be very intimidating, just at the sight of it. The literal translation only adds to the intimidation. It literally trasnlates to "horse chopping sabre." It was named this because it was used as an anti-calvery weapon to chop through the horses legs to stop the opposing army in their tracks. Its sturdy blade was surley praised highly due to it's effective damage. This is why this is one of the greatest and one of the most innovated Chinese melee weapons in the era. -
Guandao(Midieval)
The Guandao was a prime used weapon in a time of political unnunity. Both Northern and Southern dynasties at the time used this weapon in combat. The literal translation is "reclining moon blade," it is called this because of its heavy crecent curve towards the middle of the blade, which is attached to a long pole . This design proved very effective in taking the opposing enemies out. This is why this weapon was chosen as one of the greatest Chinese melee weapons of its time. -
