    The Civil Rights Act
    Outlawed discrimination in public spaces as well as jobs. Heightened the federal power to prosecute over civil rights abuses. This act is still in affect today.
  • Twenty-Fourth Amendment

    Twenty-Fourth Amendment
    This abolished the poll tax in federal elections. This made it so that no one could stop African Americans from voting because they couldn't afford it. This is still in affect today.
  • The Medicare Act

    Established Medicare and Medicaid programs. Provided health insurance for people ages 65+ no matter their income or health status. This act still helps people get health insurance today.
  • The Elementary and Secondary Education Act

    Helped give money to schools for text books, library materials and for special education programs. It aimed to provide students with a fair and equal opportunity. Schools are still benefited from this today.
  • Wilderness Preservation Act

    Wilderness Preservation Act
    Set aside land for national forest lands. Created the legal definition of wilderness. This act is still in place today.
  • Truth in Packing Act

    Set the standard of labeling on consumer goods. Made it so things like, the identity of the product, name of the distributor, and the quality of the contents had to be on the label. This is still in affect today.
