    The Birth of Galileo Galilei

    The Birth of Galileo Galilei
Galileo Galilei was born on Febuary 15, 1564 in a rather small town in the northern part of Italy called Pisa. His parents were Vincenzo and Giulia Galiei and he was rasied as the oldest of his six other siblings. Sometime after his birth, Galileo's parents moved his family to Florence where his dad worked as a wool trader to keep the family going.
This event is important because without the birth of Galileo, possibly none of his theories or important ideas could have been founded.

University of Pisa to Study Medicine
As a 17 year student, Galieo told his father about his wishes to become a monk. His father was furious and took him out of the university Vallombrosa. From there, Galileo was sent to the University of Pisa to study medecine.
This event is important because shortly after Galileo came to the school he began to come up with important theories and inventions to benefit science.

    Pendulum Theory

    Pendulum Theory
In 1581, Galileo a medical student, was in Pisa kneeling in one of the cathedrals when the swing chain made him think. He had the idea that using two different weighted pieces of lead and two different sized string to make two pedulums which could be used to determine if both swung in sync. Galileo experamented with results showing that both models swung in the same amount of time. This event is important becasue this theory was used in many other discoveries.

  • Hydrostatic Balance

    Hydrostatic Balance
Astonished by the principal that Archimedes discovered, Galileo created a special scale called the hydrostatic balance. The scale measured the weight of an object in water and from there you could determine its density calculations. It worked pretty good and seemed to solve Archimede's problem.
This event is important because it helped people back then determine the denisty of an object which can be used to also find the mass and volume of that object.

  • Heavier vs. Lighter objects

    Heavier vs. Lighter objects
In Artistole's theory of motion, he reasoned that if a heavy and light object were dropped from a high place, the heavier object would fall faster. In 1586, Galileo started experaments by using a hill of some sort to roll the different weighted balls down. He pretty accurately timed and noticed that no matter the ball size, they reached the slope in the same amount of time. This event is important because it proved Artistole and the church to be wrong.

  • Pulsilogium

    Pulsilogium
With the pendulum theory Galileo could expand upon science and medicine. In 1592, Galileo created a pump of some sorts that could measure a human pulse. This device was later used by the doctors and people who worked at the University of Pisa.
This event is important because many people could be monitored by the machine which meant that more people could be saved if the monitor detected somethimg weird.

  • English army abandons the bow

    English army abandons the bow
During sometime in 1596, the English army finally stopped using the bow and arrow as their pimary weapons. Most upgraded to handguns when battling others. From there so many other guns would be created and used to fight enemies.
This event is important because when the English upgraded their weaponry, it became so much easier to fight and win wars. This caused less losses and more wins against others.

  • The use of the telescope

    The use of the telescope
Galilleo was in Venice in the early summer of 1609 when word got out that some one had created a sort of "eyeglass" that allowed people to see farther than possible with just their eyes. What Galileo noticed that others may not have was that the telescope had more than one use. With that in mind, Galileo turned his telescope to the sky.
This event is important because many people had took after Galileo and used telescopes to look at the sky and much more was discovered.
    (Bernardini 47)
  • Venus and it's phases

    Venus and it's phases
During the end of 1609, Galileo was observing the sky when he noticed something very particular about Venus. Galileo saw that as the nights progressed, Venus could be seen as a circular shape in the sky. And from there, he saw that it began to lose its circular shape and and become thinner until it disappeared From there, Venus became invisible and the phases began again and again. This event is important because the theory could later be used to find other theories.
    (Bernardini 57-58)
  • Sun spots

    Sun spots
Although Galileo had not been the first to discover sun spots, he did contribute somehow. An earlier copy of the theory behind sunspots had been published before Galileo's and he was known to have no idea of its existance. Other scientists had also said to know nothing of it.This event which doesnt seem to be too important is because it lead to Galileo's argueing with the church which in turned lead to his death by house arrest.

  • Tobacco planted in Virgina

    Tobacco planted in Virgina
In 1612, John Rolfe of Virgina realized that Virgina was a place suitable for growing tobacco. He thought it would sell good in Great Britian and that it was perfect to grow on plantations. Since farming wasn't working well, this helped many people make a profit.
This event is very important in many ways. This helped create life in america but not only that it has some negitive effects. It soon was a reason africans were brought to america as slaves and it's a danger to people.

  • First Negro slaves in North America

First Negro slaves in North America
In 1619, the first Negro slaves came to North America and arrived in the Jamestown colony of Virgina. Slaves were used to help with the production of needed crops in the colonies. After a while, slaves were continuously brought here and treated horribly by their owners. This event is important because the slaves delt with so much during their lives and often were treated horribly for many years. Without them though, the colonies would have been slow at producing crops.

  • First English settlement in New Hampshire

First English settlement in New Hampshire
In 1623, the first ever English settlement was founded in New Hampshire. Many English traders and fishermen settled at Odiorne Point known as Rye today, and on Dover Point. The settlers used fishing, farming, cutting and sawing timber, shipbuilding, and coastal trade as their way to make profit.
This event is important because a few little settlements in New Hampsire grew to become large towns and cities that shaped the nation later on.

  • Colony of Massachusetts founded

    Colony of Massachusetts founded
In 1629, the colony of Massachusetts was founded by John Winthrop and many others known as puritans by the bay. Other colonies like the plymouth colony was founded prior in the state of present Massachusetts. The people of this colony could trade and fish but seemed to have a hard time farming the rocky soil.
This event is important because the colonies kept growing and modernizing with the help of the people to create a state one day.

  • First printing press in North A merica

First printing press in North A merica
In 1639, the first ever printing press in North America was made. The press was made in Cambridge, Mass and came two years after the founding of Harvard one of the well known collages in the country. A printing press prints pages for books so books like the bible would be prined even though by law, all of them must come from England.
This event is important because books could be easily created in the colonies and read by people to learn more.

  • The Death of Galileo Galilei

    The Death of Galileo Galilei
On January 8, 1642, the astronomer Galileo died. He was known as the "Father of Modern Astronomy", the "Father of Modern Physics" and the "Father of Science." Galileo was the first person to use the telescope to look at the sky and he made many other discoveries. He found that Jupiter has moons, saturn's rings, the sun spots and much more. This event is important because it shows the end of Galileo's life, someone who made so many amazing contributions to science. (Astronomer Galileo dies...)
