    The Forces of Change
In order to ratify this additional levy, Louis XVI was compelled by the Second Estate to convene a meeting of the Estates-General, a gathering of delegates from all three estates. The gathering, which took place at Versailles on May 5, 1789, was the first in 175 years.
I think this event was important because it shows Louis XVI's desperation and how he was spending too much money.

  • The Dawn of the Revolution

    The Dawn of the Revolution
After a lengthy night of passionate discussion, the Third Estate delegates unanimously endorsed Sieyès's proposal. They decided to create the National Assembly on June 17, 1789, effectively heralding the end of absolute monarchy and the start of representative government. This vote served as the revolution's initial conscious act.
I think that this event is important because it was proclaiming the end of absolute monarchy and the beginning of the representative government.
  • A great fear swept France

    A great fear swept France
Thousands of Parisian women rioted in October 1789 due to the growing cost of bread. The women marched on Versailles carrying knives, axes, and other weapons. In the beginning, they pressed the National Assembly to act to supply bread. The monarch and queen were the target of their ensuing rage. Some of the guards were killed during the break-in at the palace.
I think this is an important event because it shows how simple things stoked the people into rioting against the monarchy.
  • Divisions Develop

    Divisions Develop
a Constrained Monarchy The new constitution was finalized by the National Assembly in September 1791, and Louis reluctantly ratified it. A restricted constitutional monarchy was established by the constitution. It greatly diminished the king's power. The Legislative Assembly, a new legislative body, was also established.
I think this is an important event because it greatly effected the King's power which was big at the time.
  • War and Execution

    War and Execution
The War in France The French had a rough start to the war. Prussian armies began moving into Paris by the summer of 1792. If the revolutionaries injured any member of the royal family, the Prussian commander threatened to destroy Paris. Parisians were furious by this.
This is an important event because the Prussian leader threatened to destroy Paris and injure the royal family which angered the people.
  • The Terror Grips France

    The Terror Grips France
Robespierre Takes Charge One Jacobin leader, Maximilien Robespierre, gradually consolidated authority in the first few months of 1793. The goal of Robespierre and his adherents was to eradicate all traces of France's history in order to establish a "republic of virtue."
I think this is an important event because his goal was to eradicate the history of France to establish a republic virtue that could anger people.
  • The End of the Terror

    The End of the Terror
The Reign of Terror, the radical phase of the French Revolution, ended on July 28, 1794, when Robespierre went to the guillotine.
This is an important event because as I stated since Robespierre encouraged the guillotining of 17,000 enemies so the day after his arrest he was guillotined himself.
  • End of terror

    End of terror
After Robespierre's passing, public opinion in France underwent a significant change. People from all social classes were tired of the Terror. They had grown weary of the rising costs of food staples like salt and bread. During the National Convention in 1795, moderate politicians drafted a new government structure.
I think this is an important event because moderate politicians drafted a new governance structure which means they recognized the rising cost of food was serious.
  • The French and the Swiss

    The French and the Swiss
The Old Swiss Confederation broke up on March 5, 1798, when French forces invaded Switzerland at the invitation of Vaud's French-speaking factions.
I think that this is an important event because the french were protecting Vaud seeing a chance to remove a feudal leader
  • The End of the french revolution

The End of the french revolution
Napoleon, a military, toppled the revolutionary government in 1799 and instituted the French Consulate, putting an end to the revolution (with Napoleon as leader).
This is important because it was the end of a 10-year revolution that caused a lot of deaths in France.
