The French Revolution

  • The 7 year war and Funding of America

    The Seven year war was one of the main reasons they were put into financial debt. The Funding for Americas independence was also another reason they were put in debt. ( They did this hoping America would help fight back against Britain )
  • Third Estate carries

    The Third Estate is forced to pick up the pieces from the war and had to work harder due to the financial debt that France was in. All of that and the first and second estate were still partying like nobodies business.
  • The Raising of the taxes

    With extreme weather affecting the amount of work done by the third estate the amount of money coming in had decreased. King Louis XVI decided to call the estates general that had not been called in many years to vote for higher taxes. Since the first and second estate were close they always outvoted the third estate leaving them angry and feeling a sense of unfairness since they were 98% of France at the time.
  • The Jacobin club

    With the new national assembly came then Jacobin club, formed by a few people who were looking to end the king. With this, there was fear instated and the king had got the military to come in and take hold of Paris which made the citizens scared. After the national assembly heard about this they got angry along with many of the other citizens.
  • The Tennis Court oath

    The third estate was enraged because they kept getting ganged on and outvoted by the first and second estate so they tried forming their own revolution. When their original venue of where they wanted to hold these meetings were locked off by the King, they found a open tennis court and all who were there decided to make an oath to not leave until a solution had been made.
  • The storming of the bastille

    On the 14th of July 1589 the citizens had stormed a hotel looking for gunfire and they found it, but there was no gunpowder a crucial thing needed for guys to shoot. So they decided to storm the Bastille, a prison in the middle of Paris for gunpowder. They managed to storm the Bastille with ease due to the large numbers and attained what they needed.
  • The national assembly is formed

    The solution that was made by this new national assembly was a set of rules that everyone had to follow, whether in the first, second or the third estate. The rules also made sure that everyone was treated as equals and that there would be no unfairness. Everyone was also given equal taxes.
  • The storm of the Castle

    After hearing about the storming of the Bastille the national assembly they surprisingly were happy with it. They also started something called men's rights that unsurprisingly only were for men. During this time the prices of bread were raised so some women decided to march towards the Versailles. Many joined in on the march on the way.
  • The guillotine

    The guillotine, a newly made execution method which was easy and quick was introduced to those in the french revolution. This contraption was used a lot and was what killed most of the first and second estate along with the king and queen. The Jacobin's' also eventually used this contraption to kill many citizens who they thought were scheming against them and thought a authoritarian was needed.
  • The Main Man Napoleon

    The third estate killed the king and most people who were known to be higher ups than them and after the end of the Jacobin's who were the reason for the reign of terror, Those left wanted someone who could be seen as something like the king of France. This is where Napoleon comes in. Napoleon had been a big help to France in conquering other countries and was already well known in France. So the people of France decided to deemed him a hero and he became somewhat of a dictator in France.
