The Enlightenment
There were a couple enlihtnment ideas. One of those ideas was the ability to reason is what makes humans unique. -
Enlightenment Philosopher (John Locke)
He believed people are naturally happy, tolerant, and reasonable. Also that government by consent foundation for modern democracy. -
King Louis of France
Married Marie Antoineete. They lived extravagant angering the people of France. Was executed in 1793 -
Napoleon Bonaparte
Became comander of French armies in Italy. Fails to take Egypt in 1799. Crowned himself Emperor in 1804. -
Storming the Bastille
An angry mob storms the Bastille to gain weapons. They take the prison and kill the commander, beginning the great fear. -
Declaration of the Rights of Man
The National Assembly eliminated all fuedal dues and services.
All men are equal and remain equal under the law. -
The End of the Monarchy
Foreign interventions threatened the Revolution. A mob marched on the Tuileries Palace throwing the royal family in jail. The Legislative Assembly felt powerless and voted itself out of existenc. -
The National Convention
Spilt into 3 groups but all suppoerted the Revolution. Montagnards, the Girondins, and the Plain. -
Reign of Terror
Lasted for 10 months. Series of executions, trails, and accusations. -
The Directory
Governing board of 5 men. Ened on 1799 when Napoleon took power.The national Convention wrote a new Constituion. -
Napoleons Early Career/ Emperor
Created the Napoleonic code. Began expanding France. Named members of his family as the rulers of the new territories. -
Napoleons Defeat
Growth of Nationalism. Defeat in Russia. Exiled to island of Corsica. Returned to France to take back control. Died in 1821
