    Tennis Court Oath
    The Tennis Court Oath was with the members of the French Third Estate. They met alone and adopted the title the National Assembly. 3 days later they had met in a nearby indoor tennis court which is how they got their name. They vowed "not to separate and to reassemble wherever circumstances require, until the constitution of the kingdom is established."
  • The Storming of the Bastille Fortress

    The Storming of the Bastille Fortress
    Rioters stormed the Bastille fortress on July 14. They were there to get gunpowder and weapons. They call this a holiday now in France. Its known as the start of the French Revolution.

    The agrarian revolted quickly against the growing exodus of nobles.They had also inspired the National Constituent Assembly to abolish feudalism. On August 4th they signed what was later called the ¨death certificate of the old order¨ by the historian Georges Lefebvre.

    Constitution accepted by King Louis XVI
    On July 14, 1790 King Louis XVI accepted the constitution. The Fête de la Fédération is held on the Champ de Mars in Paris to celebrate the first anniversary of the Revolution. Everyone had come to this and Lafettye vowed to be forever faithful and this is when the king accepted the constitution.

    Frances first written constitution was adopted on September 3, 1791. It had echoed the more moderate voices in the assembly. It established a constitutional monarchy where the king enjoyed royal veto and the ability to appoint ministers.

    The newly elected Legislative Assembly called war on Austria and Prussia. They believed that French emigres were making counterrevolutionary alliances. They also hoped to spread this revolutionary ideal over Europe across warfare.

    Battle of Valmy
    The Battle of Valmy was the first major victory by the french in the revolutionary war after the start if the revolution. This happened in September 20th, 1792. The Prussian tried to march on Paris during this.
  • The Jacobins

    The Jacobins
    In June of 1793 the Jacobins seized the National Convention. They took it from the more moderate Gridirons. They installed a series of important measures to the National Convention. They made a new calendar and eradicated Christianity.
  • Execution of Louis XVI

    Execution of Louis XVI
    On January 21 Louis XVI was executed. He was executed for treason. He was accused of betraying the french nations for the Austrians.
  • Robespierre

    Robespierre
    On July 28,1794 Robespeirre was executed. He was the one carrying out the orders of guillotining people in the bloody reign of terror, a 10 month period in the revolution where suspected enemies were killed. His death marked the beginning of the Thermidorian Reason. That is a period where people revolted against the Reign of Terrors excesses.
