The French Revolution

  • Estates General called

    Estates General called
On May 5th 1789, the king (known as King LouisXVI) called The Estates General after 175 years because he wasn't fit enough to be king. The Estates General was an old government organization at Versailles. Out of the meeting, the king hopes to get more tax revenue out of it, the 1st and second estates tried to vote away from changes because they had life easy but the 3rd estate only wanted better reputation.
  • National Assembly formed

    National Assembly formed
The National Assembly was formed by the entire 3rd estate and a few second estate members who came together to rebel against the government and King LouisXVI. After they made the National Assembly, King LouisXVI kicked them out of the original meeting place so the next few days they found a new place to go.
  • Tennis court oath

    Tennis court oath
A few days after they got kicked out of the meeting place, they found an open building. It was an indoor tennis court but it was the only place that was open. After meeting there, they made up an oath called the "tennis court oath." The oath said that they will keep meeting there until the king changes their ways.
  • The Storming of the Bastille

    The Storming of the Bastille
This is known for the spark of the French revolution. The third estate needed gunpowder and ammo so the first place they thought of was the Bastille because it was a prison with weapons (obviously.) They also decided that it would be good to help free the prisoners even though there were only like 10 when they thought there were hundreds. The way they got in was to put the guards heads on sticks to scare them out which worked.
  • Women's March on Versailles

    Women's March on Versailles
Hungry women walked to Versailles all the way from Paris because the women thought that the king needed to see the people suffer after what he caused. This forced monarchs into Paris. When they got to King LouisXVI's palace, they demanded he move to Paris with Marie Antoinette which ended up working because they had all the guards heads on sticks and demanded they talk with him.
  • Constitutional Monarchy Formed

    Constitutional Monarchy Formed
The constitutional monarchy was formed by KIng Louis XVI. Well not exactly his choice, he was forced to change absolute monarchy ( which means the king holds all the power ) to a constitutional monarchy ( which means the king still has power but is ran by the community ) by the National Assembly.
  • France a Republic established

    France a Republic established
After the constitutional monarchy was created, there was a long debate on how it will work, but everything changed. The revolutionaries end up arresting the king! The revolutionaries tried him which means that the constitutional monarchy has been abolished
  • Beheaded King Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette

Beheaded King Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette
King louis XVI was the king of France during the french revolution and he was executed on Jan 21st 1793. 4 days prior, he was tried and everyone voted that he was guilty so they kept him until his public execution. Now the queen of France (Marie Antoinette) was executed almost a full year after the king was on Oct 19th 1793 and when she was executed, it was the start of The Reign of Terror.
  • Start of The Reign of Terror

Start of The Reign of Terror
Maximilien Robespierre was the reason why the Reign of Terror started because he wanted to stop the people who didn't want to revolutionize and who ever liked the king. He would sit in his bathtub because he had a skin condition and he would write names in the newspaper of people who would rebel against them and the third estate would go find them and send them to the guillotine.
  • The end of The Reign of Terror

The end of The Reign of Terror
The way The Reign of Terror ended wasn't really exciting but he ended up getting arrested along with a bunch supporters/helpers and they were all executed. They say that the French Rev. didn't end till 1799 but this day marks the start of nationalism.
