France government sank deeply into debt and doubled its debt by helping the Americanists win their revolution against the British. France and The Great Britian were enemys. -

Meeting Of The Estates General
The first meeting of the Estates General since 175 years ago, took place on May 5, 1789 at Versailles to discuss the increase of taxes on the nobility.
The third estate delagates whose views had been shaped by the Enlightenment, were eager to change the government.
Emmanuel Joseph Sieyes was a cleargy man and suggested that the third estae name themselves the national asembly and pass laws and reforms in the name of French people. -
The First Deliberate Act Of Revolution
On June 17, 1789 they voted to establish the National Assembly to begin the representrative government. This vote was the first deliberate act of revolution. -
Tennis Court Oath
Three days later, the Third estate delagates found themselves locked out of their meeting room. They broke down a door to an indoor tennis court, pledging to stay until they had drawn up a new constitution. This pledge baceme known as the Tennis Court Oath. Soon after, nobles and members of the cleargy joined the Third estate Delegates. -
Declaration Of The Rights Of A Man And Of The Citizen
The National Assembly created the declaration of the rights of a man and of the citizen. This stated that men are born and remain free and equal in rights. At the end the slogan was "Liberty, Equality and Fraternity." -
Woman Riots
In october 1789 thousands of Parisian woman rioted over the rising of the price on bread. They even broke into tha palace witch caused the Royal Family to flee. -
The Fall Of Bastille
On July 14 of 1790 a mob searching for gun powder to defend themselves atacked a prision called bastille and siezed controll of the building. -
The Escape Of The Royal Family
The Royal Family tried to escape to the austrian Netherlands. But they were aprehended and were sent back to Paris. -
Completion of the Constitution
The National Assembly completed the new constitution wich Louis reluctantly aproved. The constitution created a limited constitutional Monarchy and also a legislative assembly. The king stayed with the executive power to enforce laws. -

Maximilien Robespierre
In the early months of 1793 Maximilien Robespierre slowly gained power. He and his supporters build a "republic of Virtue" by wiping every trace of France past, even the calendars.
Then he became Leader of the Commitee of Public Saftey. For the next year, he governed France as a dictator. His period of rule became to be known as the "Regin Of Terror" -
