Napoleon Becomes Emperor of France
In 1804, a new constitution established Napoleon Emperor of the French. Napoleon then summoned the pope to Notre Dame to take part in the coronation. He quickly decided at the last minute to crown himself Emperor, so none would doubt his power. -

The Imperial French army under the order of Emperor Napoleon was defeated by the Seventh Coalition armies. He was exiled to Elba for the second and last time and the French government retured to a monarchy.
