    National Assembly Formed
    The Nationally assembly was a transitional body between the Estates General and the National Constituent Assembly. It was similar to how our Legistlative Branch of government works today. The National Assembly was used from June 17 to July 9 1789.
  • Tennis Court Oath

    Tennis Court Oath
    The 3rd estate was locked out of a meeting of the Estates General at the Palace of Versaille. The 3rd estate marched to the Tennis Court of Versaille to express their discontentment with the king. The Tennis Court Oath was the first time French citizens formally opposed Louis XVI.

    Storming of the Bastille
    The Bastille was a large prison in the middle of Paris in which prisoners who had spoken badly of the king were placed. Parisians stormed the Bastille to get weapons and killed a guard in the process. Only 7 prisoners were being held at the time.

    The upper classes became afraid of punishment from the lower classes since they were so much larger in population and were starting to become volatile. The Great Fear eventually lead to the abolition of Feudalism in France.

    Last Article of the Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen adopted
    This was the first step toward writing a constitution for France. Many of the ideas in the document came from ideas of the Age of the Enlightenment. Ideas in the document included Individualism, Rousseau's social contract, and the seperation of powers.

    Women's March on Versaille
    Women working in the marketplace were outraged over the extremely high cost of bread. They decided to march to the Palace of Versaille to voice their opinions and put a stop to this. They found an unguarded door and made their way to the queen's bedchamber, but she had already escaped. Although there was no concrete victory, the women got their message out.

    Intervention of Foreign Powers
    Prussia and Austria began to exoress their concern with France's current state and issued a declaration of warning. Austria sent 50,000 troops to France's border in case of a riot or rebellion.
  • Louis XVI Arrested

    Louis XVI Arrested
    The Fédéré, a new French militia besieged the Tuileries Palace where King Louis XVI and his family were staying, He was found and taken into custody. Georges Danton became Minister of Justice.

    The First Meeting of the National Convention
    The National Convention was elected to put together a new constitution. The convention governed France from September 20 ,1972 to October 26, 1795. The National Convention was made up of 721 deputies that included businessmen, tradesmen, and professionals.
  • King Louis XVI Beheaded

    King Louis XVI Beheaded
    King Louis XVI was bheaded by the guillotine on the Place de la Révolucion. This decision was voted upon by the Convention, a panel of 721 deputies. 693 of the deputies voted guilty on the matter. 380 of the deputies voted on immediate execution.
