The Assembly adopted a Declaration of the rights of Man and Citizen. This stated many democratic principles, this grounded in philosophical and political ideas because of enlightenment thinkers. -

Royalists and Jacobins protested a new regime, but swiftly silenced the army. Led by a young, short, and successful general named Napoleon Bonaparte.
