When General Lomlene de Brienne wanted the parlamentdu Paris to put taxes on property of the 3 estates. Parlament regected, and now france is in conflict with the government and parlament. -
The Calling of the Estates General
General Lomiene de Brienne asked the parlament du Paris tp regester taxation on property of all hree estates. The paralment refused and Francethen started witha year of intens conflict between the royal government and parlaments. Then on July 5, 1788, Louis XVI issued an edict calling the Estates General to a meeting in May 1789. -
The Meeting of the Estates General
The Estates General was greeted by Louis XVI in the Hall of Mirrors at the Palace of Versailles on May 2, 1789. On May 5 the meeting started with and opening speech from the king. -
Tennis Court Oath
The king locked the 3rd estate out of the meeting room. With anger, they instead met at an indoor tennis court on palcae grounds. They then sighned an oath to not leave untill they had made a new fair constituion for France. -

Paris citizens started to protect thereselves while foreign troops romed the streets of Paris. Their first attack was the Invalides fortress. Then made their way to the Bastle -
The Great Fear
This great fear spread across the country. When the revolutionary spirit took control of the people of Paris, people in the surronding areas began to demand cheaper bread. Civil unrest grew through the country side, with peasent attacking manor homes. Aristacratic area/property were destroyed by peasents. -
Feudalism Abolished
The panic of the Great Fear made the peasents very angry with the old, outmoded system of the fedual obligations. Landed aristocracy in the National Assembly agreed on the idea thath the only way to stop the radge of violence in the country side was to renounce fedual privlages. The aristocracy stripped themselves of their feudal rghts and privlages. Then on August 11, 1789, the assembly aolished serfdom -
Declaration of Rights of man
This Declaration confermed the natural rights to life, liberty, and property. Also the social and political rights of men. This Declaration echoed the sentimentd of the Enlightment philosophers. -
Womens march to Versailles
Rumors on Louis XVI's offensive court party spread through paris. It was said that the king stepped on the flag of France. Women the led a marchthe Versailles to demand bread. The mob of women forced the royal family to move back to paris. Louis XVI then signed the D.R.M. -

The Enlightment was to reform societyusing reason. To advance knoledge through the scientific method. These ideas were promoted by enlightment thinkers. -
Civil Constituion of the Clergy
The Ntional Assembly passed of the civil constitution of the clergy to bring the clergy under governmaent control. Clergy is now elected by the citizens, and their salaries would be paid by the state. The clergy was demanded to swear o the Oath of Allegine to the Civil Constution of the clergy.This requires the clergy to acknolege the supremacy of the French government over the pope. -
The Royal Family Leaves
Unrest in Paris in the Spring of 1791 convinced Marie Antoinette, the queen, their royal family must flee. An escape plan was made with the help of a loyal friend Count Axel von Fersen. The royal family made is all the way to Verennes when reconized by the National Guardsmen they were emediantly took back to Paris. -
Paris Mob attacks Tuileries
With war failurs, everyone was left very hungary. On August 10th 1791, Paris turned against their king, and headed to Tuileres were the king and queen were held. They demanded a new constution, and a convention to replace the Legeslative Assembly. They were replaced by the National Convention. -
France in War with Austria
The French government declared war with Austria. But prussia had been allied with Austria. So France found thereselfs fighting a war against both countries. -
National Convention
This was an assemblymade up of the constitutional and legislative assembly that gaoverned France during the most rough times during the French Revelution. They were elected to provide a new constituton for France after the overthrowing of the last monarchy. -
Execution of King Louis XVI
After six weeks of debate in the National Convention, while the Girondins wanting clemency for the king, and Jacobins wanting to execute him. On January 21,1793 the FRench government sent its former king to the guillotine
