Jean-Paul Marat (1758-1794)
Jean-Paul Marat was a journalist and politican. Marat was the voice for the 3rd estate which were wealthy merchants and peasants. He became a vigorous defender of the sans-culottes. He also wrote the "Friend of the people". He was murdered by Charlotte Corday in his bathtub for sending thousands of people to death. -
Maximilien Robespierre (1758-1794)
Maximilien Robespierre was a member of the Estates General, he advocated against the death penalty and supporting equal rights. He wanted the establishment of a republic. He opposed to the war with Astri. As a meber of the Committee of Public Safety he started the Reign of terror. It eneded months after his arrest and execution. -
Georges Danton (1759-1794)
Georges Danton was the first president of The Committee of Public Safety. He was a politican and belonged to the party of the Jacobis. Danton wanted to end the executions and was Executed for treason. -
Queen Marie Antoinette (1774-1792)
Marie Antoinette was queen of France she was married to Louis XVI at the age of 14. Her main job was to produce a male heir to continue her husband's royal line. She spent huge amounts of money on clothes, buying dresses nearly everyday. Being Astrian made her terribly unpopular, that people made up rumors about her. She was executed by guillotine. -
King Louis XVI (1774-1792)
Louis XVI ruled as king of France after his granfathers death. He officially became king at the age of 20. He was married at the age of 15 with Marie Antoinette. He had a problem with his penis and was not able to have any sex with his wife till 6 years later. He was killed for being a trader. He was executed. -
The French Revolution
The French Revolution was caused by the inequalities in society and most people were broke. Another cause to the French Revolution was the spread of Enlitenment ideas (Reason "Mature"). The financial crisis in France was really bad they were in debt from borrowing money. They also had limited food because of the weather. -
Jacobins & Girondins
Jacobins were down to kill anyone they saw as a threat. They were more centralized in Paris approach to government. Girondins were more moderet. They supported more national government centralization (Feduralism). -
The Three Estates
The 1st Estate was Roman catholic clergy which represented 1% of the population .The 2nd Estate were the nobility ,wealthy and old families they represented 2% of the population. The 3rd Estate was everyone left like the peasants they were the largest group with 97% of the population. -
Sans-Culottes (1792-1795)
Sans-Culottes were Parisian working class. Was led by Jacquez Roux and Jacquez Hebert. Belived that survival was a right of all people and that aristocracy and monarchy were to be elimened. -
Napolean Bonaparte (1804-1815)
Napolean Bonaparte was emporor of France. He created nationalismm and eneded the ten year period. Bonaparte ended the French Revolution.
