    After the Punic Wars

    There was always a divide between the patricians and plebeians, but it was made worse after the Punic Wars. Many of the plebeians who were farmers before the war came back and found themselves in debt and living in poverty.Small farms were getting forced out of business. Many plebeian farmers sold their farms and headed to the city to find work. Finding work was difficult, because slaves did most of the work. If free men were lucky enough to have jobs they earned very low wages.

    After Sulla resigned people thought they could just take power whenever they wanted so some people with very little intelligence about the government were in charge.

    As the Roman empire grew it destroyed the Roman Republic. The reason for this is because there were so many rulers and they could not all agree with each other.
