The grievances of British subjects in the American colonies
The British in the American colonies was grieved while in tax depth during the Tea tax,paper tax,a and stamp tax. They also were grievance with the housing of soldiers. British philosophers such as Bacon, Hobbes and Locke came to France and were strongly influenced by the French Philosophies. -
Thomas Hobbes
Thomas Hobbes came up with the social contract. A social contract is an agreement between people and govt. Hobbes also believed people were inherently evil. -

John Jay represented New York in the Consatoutional Congress. Jay helped to write the state consatoution. Jay became the president of congress but soon after took an important role durring the war. Jay became the foregine affairs secatary under the Articles of confederation . Washington later opointed Jay as the Supreem Courts first Cheife of justice. Jay had a disbelife of the enlightment . -

The American Revolutionary War was a war between the British and Americans that declared the American colonies their freedom. The Declaration of Independence was the domucent that included all the new rights and all the ideas of the philosophes during the Enlightenment. -

John Adams
John Adams was one of the founding fathers, Adams was in the first and second Continental Congress. Adams was part of the committee that drafted the Declaration of Independance . Gorge Washington named Adams the first Comander of the Continental Army at the Continental Congress . Helped create the Treaty of Paris and offically end the American Revoloution. He later
became the vice president and then the third president. Adams with Madison came up with the idea of the anti- democrat idea. -
Thomas Jefferson
Thomas Jefferson was a delagate of the Second Continental Congress. Jefferson was chosen to be part of the creation of the Declaration of Independance. He was sent to France as a diplomat after the Revolution . When returned he became the vice president under John Adams then himself became the third president. Thomas Jefferson was a man that reflected his attitude off the Enlightment -

Hamilton was a federalist he believed that a strong central government would help a keep a diverse country from splitting apart. -

The Articles of Confederation were also called the Federal Constitution. It represented the first constitutional agreement made between all thirteen colonies. This Document reflects the ideas of Montesquieu and Voltaire with the three branches of government and fair trial. -

Montequieu came up with the three branches of government; executive, legislative, and judicial. He also came up with separation of powers. -
Gorge Washington
Gorge Washington was part of the First Continental Congress. Washington was chosen to lead the Continental Army. He was the president of the Constatutional Convention and then later became the first prsident of the United States. As the first presisdent he set the foundation for the United States. Durring the Enlightment Washington wanted to educate the Americans youth. -
James Madison
Madioson represented Virgina at the Consatutional Convention. He exspressed his ideads about forming a three part federal government. Madison won a seat at the U.S House of Representatives. Then later became the fourth president. Madison helped create the American Enlightment. -
North West Ordinance
It provided a method for admitting new states to the Union from the territory, and listed a bill of rights guarenteed in the territory. The United States would expand westward across North America by new states rather than expansion of existing states. -

The Constitution, originally comprising seven articles, Its first three articles entrench the doctrine of the separation of powers, whereby the federal government is divided into three branches, the Legislative, Executive, and Judicial. The constitutions of our first states and the United States Constitution reflect Enlightenment principles. The writings of Benjamin Franklin made many Enlightenment ideas accessible to the general public. -

Rousseau established common good, "man is born free", and natural rights. He was also a part of the establishment of the social contract. -

Voltaire came up with the Freedom of Speech, Freedom of religion, and Fair Trial. -
Bill of Rights
The Bill of Rights stated the first ten amendments of the U.S Constitution. The amendments include Hobbes, Locke, Rousseau, Montesquieu, and Voltaire's ideas. The first amendment states Freedom of Speech and Freedom of Religion along with three other freedoms.
