English came to the Caribbean in the 1620's. A simplified version of the language, called Creole, were spoken between the sailors and slaves on the ships that came to the Caribbean from Africa. The ships started with manufactured goods in them and came from England to Africa where slaves were exchanged for the goods. The slaves were then sold at auctions in the Caribbean, where they later on worked. As payment for the slaves the ships sailed back to England full of sugar, tobacco and cotton.

    The "First Fleet"
The "First Fleet" held around 780 people from England. They arrived in what was called Port Jackson in Australia however, these people were not free. They were criminals and sent to Australia as a punishment for their crimes. That's why they weren't allowed to return and had to live their lives there. Many of them nearly died since they were unfamiliar with the climate and didn't know how to make food. Words from slang that were used by the criminals are still being used in Australia today.
